Hello! My name is Kimmy and I’m in my 2nd year at Florida Atlantic University. I’m very excited to kickstart my blog with a recent dilemma. I hope some of you can relate and feel some sort of comfort in the struggle.

The most important thing to keep in mind, in my opinion, is that there is no right or wrong way to be a good student... You know what you need better than anyone else, and as long as you listen to those needs, you are very capable of making it through this semester, and those yet to come!

In case our New Musical Theatre module was not exciting enough, we have another project this semester that is just as thrilling.

Shakespeare’s plays have been the inspiration for many beloved movies and musicals. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite movies and musicals that use the plot of various works by William Shakespeare. I encourage you to check out this list and see if you’ve been a secret fan of Shakespeare without even knowing it!

It is really quite a simple concept, but I think I have been so caught up in the concept of having friends, that I lost my sense of what really made me a good friendship. I suppose it is not normal to go out with friends and constantly feel anxious and self-conscious.

It’s back-to-school season, and high school seniors everywhere are clamoring to complete college essays and applications while fighting off severe cases of “senior-itis.” However, there’s a certain group of students that have a whole other admissions process to go through: Auditions.

The fact that a show like Wicked can have such an emotional impact across generations proves that the longevity of Broadway shows as a whole should not and cannot be underestimated.

As a student, one can thrive by participating in exciting campus activities to make new friends and get familiar with their new environment. As a first-time college student, it is crucial to go to games, participate in activities, and join a club to enjoy your college experience.

I loved this audition season. Because I finally let myself relax and have fun. Because whatever happens happens. And all I can do is go in that room and give it all I’ve got. It’s only 3 minutes of my life. And that is so exciting.

Fullerton College offers many opportunities that I look forward to taking advantage of. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in pre-nursing because I enjoy helping others in my free time, and I believe I will thrive in this environment. The current classes I am taking are English, probability statistics, and chemistry.

Technicians: often overlooked, yet the very foundation of the entertainment industry. How does this sentiment apply in a high school theatre program?

Seeing every aspect of a creative process made me a more empathic actor. I understand the words of a playwright and the intention of a director because I have been in their shoes. I also had special interest in musicology, so I pick up on trends within a musical landscape. In my experience, being a performer and “insert title here” has helped me remain well rounded. 

If you're a college student, you might know what a Starship food delivery robot is. If you don’t know what it is, picture this: you’re walking to a class or back to your dorm and suddenly you see this little white cube thing on wheels that rolls around the campus.

On today's blog, bring to you one of the reasons why I’d chosen the University of Winchester instead of a drama school. In all its unconventional theatre modules, this is by far my favorite one.

Feelings are so good at lying to us and tricking us. Remember why you love to dance. Remember how fun it is. Find the joy of it all. It’s hard sometimes, but I know it’s there.

Nothing beats standing on a stage and telling a beautiful story to a receptive audience. We love the fast paced, ever changing, unpredictable environment that is our major and our industry. However, we just want a little respect for the hustle.

Speaking for myself, I listen to music as often as I can and to me, music almost controls my emotions. That leads to why I have a collection of 24 playlists. “That’s so many how do you ever choose?” Simple; whatever mood I am in or want to be in, I play the corresponding playlist.

Social media has been entirely integrated into the theatre industry. It’s hard to find a Broadway show that isn’t active on Instagram or TikTok. Performers have taken to social media as well to advertise and create a name for themselves. As a high school performer, I have noticed both the positive and negative effects of social media’s involvement in the theatre industry. 

Going to school or college for theatre is something meant to prepare performers for the realities of a career in the arts. Unfortunately, one of those realities is not getting cast in every show you audition for. Even in an educational theatre setting, you likely won’t be cast in every show or project you submit for– and that’s totally fine! We’ve all been there. However, just because you may not be cast in this semester's big play or musical doesn’t mean you’re out of performing for the season! Here are some ways you can keep your performance shoes on regardless of your casting status.

This semester is dissimilar from any other I’ve had, because as I’m writing about my back-to-school experiences, I’m currently in New Jersey in The Conjuring, playing Cindy Perron with RWS Entertainment. I found out that I would be leaving school to do this job at the beginning of September. As soon as I accepted the offer I quickly switched into thinking about how I would tie up as many loose ends at school as possible.

This blog post takes a look at the skills that can be developed outside of the classroom through-extracurricular activities and why it should be encouraged for students to participate.

I have been involved in theater for many years now, both onstage and off. Through theater, I have created long-lasting friendships and gained many positive experiences that have shaped who I am today. Looking back on my childhood, I am eternally grateful that my parents enrolled me in dance classes, acting intensives, and vocal lessons when I was younger because I found something I was truly passionate about.
