2025 AWARDS SEASON

On Sunday, June 9, The American Theatre Wing's 73rd Annual Tony Awards was hosted by James Corden, live from Radio City Music Hall and broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The ceremony honored the incredibly talented theatre professionals for their remarkable achievements on Broadway during the 2018-2019 season.

Stephanie J. Block has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for The Cher Show.

Santino Fontana has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Tootsie.

Bryan Cranston has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for NETWORK.

Oklahoma! has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

As part of the 73rd Annual Tony Awards, legendary playwright and librettist Terrence McNally was honored with one of the Lifetime Achievement Award. A revival of his play Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune is currently on Broadway, starring Audra McDonald and Michael Shannon. Ali Stroker has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Oklahoma!.

Sergio Trujillo has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography for AIN'T TOO PROUD: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE TEMPTATIONS.

A Tony winner himself, THE LATE LATE SHOW James Corden opened the 73rd Annual Tony Awards with an expansive opening number that included over 170 Broadway stars. In the number, Corden celebrated the magic of live shows - with a brief interruption from Bryan Cranston - to open the 2019 Tony Awards. Corden was joined on stage by the casts of Ain't Too Proud, Tootsie, Oklahoma!, Beetlejuice, The Prom, Hadestown, and Kiss Me, Kate.

Jessica Paz and Nevin Steinberg have won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical for HADESTOWN.

At the 2019 Tony Awards, Monticello High School Theater Director Madeline Michel from Charlottesville, Va. was awarded the 2019 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. The Excellence in Theatre Education Award was co-founded in 2014 by the Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) to recognize top K-12 drama teachers and to celebrate arts education. 

Robert Horn has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Tootsie.

On Sunday night at the 73rd Annual Tony Awards, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley received the 2019 Regional Theatre Tony Award. The honor is accompanied by a grant of $25,000, made possible by City National Bank's generous support of the Creative Arts Awards. Watch the theatre accept the Tony Award.

Included in the announcements were the winners in the lighting, sounds, scenic, and costume design and orchestration categories. 

Bertie Carvel has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for Ink.

Rob Howell has won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play and Best Costume Design of a Play for THE FERRYMAN. 

zxczcAt Sunday night's 73rd annual Tony Awards, Judith Light accepted the 2019 Isabelle Stevenson Award. The annual honor is presented annually to a member of the theatre community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations. Light received the Award for her impassioned advocacy to end HIV/AIDS and her support for LGBTQ+ and human rights.
