The cast of the new Australian stage play BARASSI have begun rehearsals. After years of planning, months of casting and weeks of nervous energy the full cast and crew are thrilled to finally all be together to start the BARASSI journey.
Tee O’Neill’s stage play BARASSI brings to life the story of Ron Barassi alongside the wonderful characters of the VFL from the 50’s–80’s including: Norm Smith; Alex Jesaulenko; Syd Jackson; Des Tuddenham; Mark Jackson; Brent Croswell; Warwick Capper to name a few.
BARASSI, the Stage Show starts in World War II with his champion footballer father, Ron Sr, tragically killed in Libya. We follow the development of young Ron under the care and mentorship of legendary coach Norm Smith as he develops into “the father of modern football”. The story of Ron Barassi will bring the audience into the life of Barassi as football icon and the man himself.
Steve Bastoni takes on the role of the legendary coach Barassi, whilst Chris Asimos plays the young Barassi. Matt Parkinson creates the role of coach and mentor Norm Smith, with Jane Clifton in the central role of Narrator
They are joined by Richard Sullivan, Amanda Labonte, Glenn Maynard, and introducing former AFL footballer Russell Robertson
