Be the star in a show, design the set or become in expert in the performance arts—all are possible career paths you can follow through our three Theatre programs.
All three programs are taught by our expert faculty, who live and breath all aspects of show business.
If you can hit the high notes, our Musical Theatre major provides extensive training in theatre performance with vocal, keyboard and music theory studies. The program prepares you for opportunities like musical directing or arranging, drama instructing, choreography, acting and performing.
Looking for intensive performance training? The Theatre major prepares you for a career in professional or academic theatre. You will focus heavily on theatre studies and production experiences, as well as dance instruction, throughout your coursework. By experiencing it all, you may find an area of special interest or benefit from a rounded education that covers all aspects of your craft.
Finally, YSU's Theatre Studies major is designed to give you an understanding of various techniques of theatre production. You'll work closely with professors in the classroom and in lab settings and gain a broad understanding of the art of theatre , while also sharpening your skills in production and performance. Major career paths include performance and education.

Sydney James Harcourt, a Grammy Award-winning Broadway performer and film and television star, and James Ginty, a movie and television star, will appear in Julius Caesar at the 2023 Interlochen Shakespeare Festival. Enrique Márquez Named Director of Music at Interlochen Center for the Arts

Interlochen Center for the Arts announced today that Enrique Márquez has been named Director of Music. In this role, Márquez will lead music programming, pedagogy, and curricula at Interlochen Arts Academy, Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen Online, and Interlochen College of Creative Arts. Márquez begins his new role June 1.

Jay is trapped in a toxic home environment. Taking care of her drug-addicted mother and lonely and misunderstood younger brother, she dreams of escaping into a better world. She is presented with the chance-of-a-lifetime when winning a nation-wide essay contest to be the new writer of the final book in a beloved series left incomplete by the death of the author. However, Jay's 'dream ending' of the story is threatened when she has to collaborate with an additional, surprise contest winner. Set in the American Midwest, Jay and the Contest explores what it means to make it out of our hometown, no matter the consequences.

An industry reading of the new play BACK by Matt Webster will take place on Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00 PM at the Studios at Manhattan Theatre Club (311 West 43rd Street, 8th Floor). Jenna Worsham (The Parisian Woman, The Heidi Chronicles) directs with Terra Mackintosh as 'Leah' and Matt Webster as 'Derek.'
