The UNC Charlotte Department of Music is a community of nationally recognized artists, scholars, and pedagogues who are committed to preparing students of diverse backgrounds and interests for healthy, productive, and successful lives as musical advocates and professionals. We leverage our location within both a major research university and a vibrant cultural metropolis to provide intellectual and artistic leadership through excellence in teaching, scholarly and creative activity, and service. Located in a state-of-the-art teaching and performance facility, the UNC Charlotte Department of Music offers music majors and minors intensive professional programs in all wind, string, and percussion instruments, in addition to world-class studies in piano, voice, opera and musical theatre, and jazz. The Department offers numerous opportunities for UNC Charlotte students from all majors in all colleges to participate in bands, choirs, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. UNC Charlotte is an associate member of the National Association of Schools of Music and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Our music education program is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
