The Union College Department of Theater and Dance, dedicated to community engagement and global perspectives, seeks to develop knowledge, teach skills, reveal potential, and inspire connections to performance, design, and technical expertise as a crucial component of a liberal arts education. Our immersive student-centered learning environment provides creative opportunities for personal and collective expression and growth, supporting the vitality of the performing arts in today’s world with an eye towards the future. Our department equips students from across Union College’s curriculum with the scholarly foundation and artistic skillset necessary to innovate and succeed in the field of performing arts, or to use their study of theory and practice to lead with wisdom, empathy, and courage in their chosen careers.

That laughter you hear coming from within the Troutt Theatre on the Belmont University campus this weekend and next should probably come with a trigger warning. For no matter how rollicking, rambunctious and uproarious it truly is, it should be pointed out that what is transpiring on that stage over two weekends is, indeed, the stuff of post-traumatic stress – or, not to put too fine a point on it, it would be if the shenanigans weren’t brilliantly scripted, infinitely well-rehearsed and just the way it should be.

Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia's professional classic theatre, continues Season XIII: Celebrating the Extraordinary with Clifford Odets' American classic Waiting For Lefty. Directed by Kyle Haden, Waiting For Lefty remains an incendiary and revolutionary play about the growing pains of labor in capitalist America, and starts previews January 18, with an Opening Night Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Local dance artist and graduate student in the Department of Theater and Dance Meredith Cabaniss presents Rite of Spring, a program featuring a contemporary adaptation of Le Sacre du Printemps and performances by dance artists from throughout Southern California. Rite of Spring runs April 15-16, 2022 at the Hatlen Theater on University of California, Santa Barbara campus.

The UCSB Department of Theater and Dance will present Spectral Frequencies, a new play devised and directed by our graduate student Jo Palazuelos-Krukowski. A ghostly tapestry of Australian aural dramas brought to life for the stage, Spectral Frequencies is a wondrous amalgam of scary stories showcasing the island continent's rich legacy of twentieth-century horror radio.
