Temple’s School of Theater, Film and Media Arts (TFMA) houses the Department of Film and Media Arts and the Department of Theater. TFMA’s hallmark programs in theater, film and media fuse the highest quality professional training with scholarship and artistry to forge a passionate, diverse creative learning community. Our mission is to advance the role of film, media arts and theatrical performance in public life. TFMA professors prepare students for global, professional careers by providing unique opportunities for experiential learning, research and trans-disciplinary exploration. Our distinguished alumni continue to light up the stages and screens of Broadway and Hollywood, in professional theaters across the county, in independent and alternative film, on television and at major media arts venues nationally and internationally. TFMA offers BA and BFA programs in thirteen concentrations in disciplines from musical theater to cinematography, screenwriting to theater design. The undergraduate programs are built on a foundation of scholarship and artistry. TFMA values experiential learning; students work on theater productions, class projects, and graduate films to gain hands-on experience. Additionally, internship opportunities with one of TFMA's Study Away programs allows students to create meaningful work and make valuable connections. The Department of Theater also offers a unique Theater Education 4+1 Program. Students earn a bachelor of arts in theater, with a focus on theater education, a masters of education degree, a super-minor in English, certification to teach in secondary schools in Pennsylvania, and perform a semester of student teaching in a high school setting.
