Minor in Music


The programs of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts provide majors with the skills needed to become highly successful in their chosen professions. The Music program is especially committed to excellence in public school music; in addition to an inclusive major in music, comprehensive programs are also available in vocal music education and instrumental music education. These programs provide instruction in private study, music theory/literature, and methodology applicable to teaching at the elementary and secondary levels. Northwest Missouri State University has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1969. Our music major degrees are the B.M.E. (Bachelor of Music Education), and the B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in Music. We also offer a Music Minor degree.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse held the 2019 Dionysos Awards on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019. The theatre honored 14 backstage, guest services, and education volunteers, and announced 12 acting award winners. The evening began with a number from A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, on stage now through Sept. 29, 2019.

Kansas City Public Theatre (KCPublic) presents Medea: An American Tragedy by Nathan Bowman.  This production, in partnership with the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center, and Kansas City Parks and Recreation, presents the Greek tragedy as it was meant to be seen: outdoors at Brush Creek Amphitheater.  Medea will also appear as part of KC Fringe Festival, presented in part by American Family Insurance--Gary Woods Agency LLC.
