HPU’s theatre program was named the No. 1 “underrated” theatre college in the Mid-Atlantic Region by OnStage, though its graduates, students, faculty and community members who attend performances know the program’s quality. Students often write the plays that are produced at the university. Theatre majors also assist in designing scenery, costumes and lighting under faculty mentorship and guidance. Students have gone on to present their work at the Kennedy Center/ American College Theatre Festival, the North Carolina Theatre Conference, the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the High Point University “Year of the Arts,” and HIPURCS.
