Hawai‘i Pacific University offers a unique experience for students interested in studying Theater. Small classes allow for greater interaction between students and teachers, and much individualized attention. Courses are taught by Theater professionals, offering students high quality instruction and mentoring. Acting and production courses give students the opportunity to apply both technical and performance skills to live performances. Because the major productions involve actors, designers, and technicians from the community, students have the opportunity to work with many theater professionals, both on stage and off stage. Hawai‘i Pacific University Theatre is a member of the Hawaii State Theatre Council, and its productions each year are adjudicated along with most of the professional, community, and university theaters in Hawaii. HPU Theatre has earned numerous awards for acting, directing, ensemble performance, playwriting, and overall play production.

BWW Interview: Theatre Shutdown Interview With Alex Munro
by Cheyne Nomura - April 01, 2020

In this time of uncertainty, the best one can do---and hopefully you've been doing so!---is to stay indoors and quarantine. While it's no news that many businesses and industries have been affected by the virus, an industry that has largely been impacted is certainly the arts. With cinemas and theatres temporarily closed, communities are unfortunately unable to attend the venues they frequent in order to be immersed in stories that help them escape reality for two hours. So, through the inability to review shows, I reached out to a friend of mind and collaborator, Alex Munro, whom I worked with on in #MeToo Monologues: Stories for Healing (2019) and the halted Where Words Once Were (2020), to not only do a spotlight but to also get some thoughts on what folks can do in order to help specifically theatres sustain themselves throughout these alarming, volatile times.
