Theatre Studies provides rigorous, professionally oriented training within the context of a well-rounded liberal arts education. As a Theatre Studies major, you can pursue training in classes as challenging as those offered in any conservatory in the nation, while obtaining a solid education that keeps your career or graduate study options open as you explore the work of a professional artist. Faculty members and staff have worked as professional theatre actors, directors, designers, and technicians. In addition, practicing artists of high caliber are often invited to campus to work with students. Guest artists have included: Playwrights Edward Albee, Simon Bent, Maria Irene Fornes and Tony Kushner Actors Tandy Cronyn, Sidney Poitier, Anna Deavere Smith, Mickey Solis and Jack Wetherall Designers Dominic Abbenante, Jesse Belsky, Burke Brown, Gabriel Clausen, Roslyn Fulton-Dahlie, Elisheba Ittoop, Badger Koon, Robbie MacLean, John Wolf and Maria Wurttele Directors Mark Rucker and Danny Scheie Master teacher Larry Singer Alumni have gone on to prestigious graduate theatre programs and professional internships, and they have found employment in theatre, film, and television. Majors have also pursued graduate work and careers in fields as diverse as law, medicine, psychology, education, and social work. Guilford believes theatre training develops skills and thought-processes applicable to problem solving in all areas of life.

Eastern Music Festival has announced the return to live performances this summer. After canceling the in-person 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EMF is coming home to the Guilford College campus from June 26 through July 31, 2021.

Eastern Music Festival Announces 59th Summer Season Of Performances

Eastern Music Festival (EMF), Greensboro's nationally recognized classical music festival and summer educational program, returns June 27 through August 1, 2020, for its 59th season. The 2020 season of Classics Reimagined includes 65+ performances by three symphonies, faculty and young artists chamber ensembles, and appearances by noted guest artists at its home location at Guilford College and other locations in Greensboro, across the Triad, and Boone, North Carolina. Over six centuries of compositions will be studied and performed during the five week Festival, including three world premieres, one U.S. premiere, several works by award-winning American composer and visiting guest artist Lowell Liebermann, and several performances of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven celebrating the 250 anniversary of the master composer's birth.

Eastern Music Festival (EMF), Greensboro's nationally recognized classical music festival and summer educational program, has received a three-year grant of $30,000 from the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation for the Distinguished Teaching Artist program. The Foundation's generous support will enable EMF to continue the master guest teacher program over the 2020, 2021, and 2022 summer study seasons.

Eastern Music Festival (EMF), a nationally recognized music festival and summer educational program based in the heart of North Carolina, announces the world premiere of two compositions for classical guitar to debut during the annual guitar program performances at the Festival. Greensboro composers Steve Landis and Mark Charles Smith each were commissioned to create the works for the Festival's two-week Guitar Program: Landis' work, The Blacktop Truth Through Samarcand, will be performed by the EMF Guitar Ensemble on July 21, and Smith's work, A Good Problem to Have, will be performed by EMF faculty artists Kami Rowan (guitar), Kelly Burke (clarinet) and Smith on July 24.

Eastern Music Festival (EMF), a nationally recognized music festival and summer educational program based in the heart of North Carolina, announces five new faculty members for the 2019 season. Christopher Caudill (horn), Netanel Draiblate (violin), and Demondrae Thurman (euphonium) will join the faculty this month. Also joining on one-year contracts are Yolanda Bruno (violin) and Erin Zehngut (violin), both serving for EMF faculty that are on-leave this season.
