The Music Department offers a wide variety of classes dedicated to the study of music, including classes in music history, theory, composition, ethnomusicology, jazz, global popular music, and conducting. Students also have the opportunity to perform with their talented peers in our performing ensembles. These include the College Chorus, Chamber Singers, Jazz Ensemble, two orchestras, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, African Drumming Ensemble, and various chamber groups. In addition, students can take private vocal or instrumental lessons with our highly renowned teachers. These offerings are open to all F&M students, regardless of their major.
Because F&M believes there is a strong correlation between fine musicianship and academic success, we offer a number of unique programs for prospective and current music students. These initiatives are intended to emphasize the importance of musicians to the Franklin & Marshall community.

CHICAGO The Musical Comes to The Fulton Theatre
by A.A. Cristi
- January 14, 2019
The Fulton Theatre swings into the new year with one of Broadway's longest running musicals, Chicago. Opening on January 24, 2019, the Fulton's distinctive production of Chicago is set to be the hottest show of the season, and will channel the alluring luster of 1920's vaudeville. Featuring a two story band stand, flying jail cells, and set elements that extend into the audience, Chicago is sure to be a spectacle so alluring it should be criminal. The dazzling set was designed by Adam Koch, who recently wowed audiences with his set design for Fulton Theatre's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The Fulton's costumes are a departure from the simple all-black garb of the Broadway revival. Featuring glistening sequins, feathers, and boas, the Fulton's costumes epitomize one of the show's most iconic numbers, "Razzle Dazzle". The exquisite costumes are designed by Fulton regular, Ryan J. Moller, who has crafted wardrobes for some of the Fulton Theatre's biggest shows including Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Robin and Clark's Treasure Island, A Musical Adventure.

Steppenwolf Education's Professional Leadership Programs (PLP) offer opportunities through Internships, Apprenticeships and Fellowships for students, graduates, and early-career professionals. The Fellowship cohort is made up of early career people of color who hold an apprenticeship in their department of interest at Steppenwolf and are given additional paid professional development seminars and externship opportunities. The externship allows Fellows the opportunity to explore more deeply their individual professional goals, make connections to theatre practitioners outside of Steppenwolf's walls and provide more opportunities for mentorship across the industry.
