Bachelor of Science in Music

Bachelor of Science in Theatre

Bachelor of Science in Musical Theatre

The Theatre Program - Theatre concentration prepares ECU students interested in acting, technical theatre, dramatic arts, and theatre management to enter those fields. The Theatre concentration requires study and work in all aspects of theatre. Students interested in performing learn (and work on) the technical aspects that make their performance possible. Students interested in technical theatre step onstage. This broad background enables each to appreciate the other, creates a "teamwork" culture in theatre, and prepares students to enter the world of professional or educational theatre in a number of capacities. The Theatre concentration also prepares students for graduate study in Theatre. Theatre majors prepare four main productions each academic year and also support an active studio theatre season. The Theatre Program - Musical Theatre concentration prepares students to enter Musical Theatre. This concentration is designed not just for performers but for educators, directors, and possibly musical directors or conductors with a secondary major in Music. Musical Theatre majors study acting, movement, and voice. They enjoy performing in ensembles and main stage musicals. Musical Theatre majors develop skills and professional attitudes while learning about both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. While the Musical Theatre concentration requires minimal study in technical aspects of theatre, it does not prepare students to become theatre technicians. Students interested in technical theatre should consider the Performing Arts Studies - Theatre concentration.
