The mission of the Department of Music is to offer all students outstanding musical and educational experiences within a nurturing and collegial environment. These experiences provide opportunities for personal and professional enrichment by developing a greater appreciation for and understanding of the art of music. Through performance, creative activity, research, scholarship and teaching, students are prepared for careers as performers, composers, teachers and independent scholars, and for advanced study. The Music Department occupies a large, modern facility, with over sixty pianos, an outstanding library and Music Resource Center (with extensive chamber music, scores, choral music, orchestral music, and recordings sections), computer music lab (Media Center for Music Technology), studios, practice rooms, rehearsal areas, and recital hall.

OSF Hires Anyania Muse In Newly Evolved Role, Director Of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, And Access

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival announced today Anyania (Ahn-ya-nigh-ah) Muse will become its Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) on April 12, 2021. In this newly evolved role, Muse will join OSF's leadership team, providing vision and strategy for the integration of IDEA into all facets of OSF's operations. Muse will design, communicate, execute and monitor programs and initiatives that actively promote and foster a radically inclusive culture that is an anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, and anti-ableist at the company.

The Kennedy Center Announces 50th KCACTF National Festival

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 50th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 16-20, 2019 in multiple locations throughout the Center. The Center also announced the national awardees for the KCACTF. Selected awardees and representatives will be brought to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in the National Festival. These student artists from across the United States have been recognized for their outstanding work from the eight regional festivals that were held January 8 through February 28, 2019.

The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) is pleased to reveal the full schedule of performances for the 2019 Festival that will run from May 23 - June 2 and have as a central theme The Path to Democracy. As the dark clouds of nationalism and fascism re-assert themselves on the global stage, SFIAF looks at some of the struggles for democracy past and present and how they manifest themselves in different cultures. The Festival will take place at, and in partnership with, the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture.

Berkeley Rep Announces Fellows For 2018-19 Season

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced today that 15 young professionals have been awarded fellowships for the 2018-19 season. Theatre graduates from universities across the nation apply for this program that provides a year-long deep dive into the operations of the award-winning theatre. Fellowships cover a variety of artistic and administrative disciplines and provide specialized training that assists fellows with embarking on a professional career in the arts. Additionally, fellows participate in career development seminars, build professional contacts, and even serve as mentors themselves for Berkeley Rep's annual Teen One-Acts Festival.
