With younger brother Kenny’s birthday coming in just a few days, the Watson family makes a road trip to visit Grandma to get older brother Byron on the straight and narrow. But their plans go awry and both brothers are forced to grow up quickly. Based on the book “The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963” by Christopher Paul Curtis, this small ensemble play imagines the effects the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombings might have on a family visiting Birmingham that fateful Sunday. The event plays a pivotal role in bringing the Watson family together to face the monsters in the dark – both real and imagined.
