In 1988, Malcolm, alongside Tim Fort and Steve Stettler, took the reins of Weston Playhouse, rededicating the theatre to its community, reorganizing it as a not-for-profit company, and entering into an agreement with Actors' Equity, the professional union of actors and stage managers. Malcolm personally guided the expansion of the company's accessibility, now a leader in the state. Weston has grown to become an award-winning regional theatre nationally known for its multi-stage summer festival and its year-round Education and New Works programs. In 2004, Galati was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. He was the recipient of nine Joseph Jefferson Awards for his contributions to Chicago theater.
Galati and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan adapted the novel The Accidental Tourist for a film, The Accidental Tourist which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Rondi Anne Reed (born October 26, 1952) is an American actress of stage and screen. A longtime member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, she has appeared in more than 50 productions at that theater.
