Company - 2021 Broadway History , Info & More

Company will come home to New York this season, with opening night set for March 22, 2020 at Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The production will officially open on Stephen Sondheim's 90th Birthday following previews, which begin Monday, March 2. The production, directed by Marianne Elliott, will not be a replica of the version that recently ran in London's West End. It will feature an American cast, and some updates.

At Bobbie's 35th birthday party all her friends are wondering why she isn't married; why she can't find the right man and why she hasn't settled down to have a family. The multi-award winning musical comedy about life, love and marriage includes Stephen Sondheim's iconic songs, "The Ladies who Lunch," "Being Alive," "Side by Side," and "You Could Drive a Person Crazy."

FEATURED REVIEWS FOR Company

show to see right now
9 / 10

No other show understands the callused skin that hardened, cynical New Yorkers develop to make it through another miserable day quite like 'Company' does. Sondheim's musical, splendidly directed by Marianne Elliott, is a paean to NYC about the pains of living in NYC. Eight million people and somehow you're still single and in your 30s. Constantly surrounded by wackos and dullards. Friends hightail it at random, unable to deal with the stress. Apartments are small. The subway is unavoidable. Why pay for therapy when you could go to 'Company'?

Review | ‘Company’ is a mostly sublime Sondheim revival
9 / 10

The production (which is a bit overlong, at just under three hours) contains superb staging, visual design (including oversized party balloons, an 'Alice in Wonderland' motif, and even a rainfall effect), music direction, and casting - with one notable exception in its leading lady, Tony winner Katrina Lenk ('The Band's Visit'), who is plainly miscast as Bobbie, lacking both the vocal chops and emotional vulnerability for the role.

BWW Blog: It's My First Pride Month. That's Because of COMPANY on Broadway.
by Student Blogger: Bea Mienik - June 27, 2022

All I knew about COMPANY was that I was entranced by its design (killed it, marketing team), I loved the art on the Playbill, and as a college student, I loved the $59 price tag of the rush ticket even more.   ... As a musical theater major, it was an exceedingly rare thrill to go into a show knowing absolutely nothing about the plot. In hindsight, I do not know if I would have asked for a warning, if I could have gone back in time.
