THE PROM Cancels Three Performances at the Fabulous Fox

The opening of the national tour engagement of THE PROM at the Fabulous Fox Theatre has been delayed due to positive COVID-19 tests within the show’s cast and crew. The Tuesday, January 25 through Thursday January 27 performances are cancelled.

Visiting THE PROM in original stage form will be refreshing for those who know only the Netflix version. It's as if someone grabbed a theatrical scouring pad and scrubbed away all the glitzy, feel-good 'Glee'-dom that made Murphy's take feel slightly sugar-rushed. On stage, THE PROM is refreshingly edgier, campier, and just a smidge more foul-mouthed than in the movie, albeit still unrealistic and all too tidy in the end...

The tour stars Kaden Kearney (they/them) as 'Emma, High School Student, Banned from The Prom,' Kalyn West as 'Alyssa Greene, Head of Student Council with a Secret,' and more.

In 2010 a gay Mississippi high school student was banned from coming to her senior prom by the school’s Board of Education because she wanted to bring her girlfriend as her date. She challenged the ruling, which resulted in the cancellation of the prom. The student and the ACLU sued the district. The federal court found the school district guilty of violating the student’s first amendment rights and said the prom must be held.
