THE OLDEST BOY tells the story of Tenzin, the toddler son of an American woman (to be played by Celia Keenan-Bolger) and a Tibetan man (Joel de la Fuente) who is recognized as the reincarnation of a high Buddhist teacher. Differing cultures contend with competing ideas of faith and love when two monks seek permission to take Tenzin to a monastery in India to begin his training as a spiritual master. His parents must decide whether to send their young son away or keep him home.
Visionary playwright Sarah Ruhl (The Clean House) returns to Lincoln Center Theater with THE OLDEST BOY, her newest play, directed by Rebecca Taichman.
When Tibetan monks arrive unexpectedly, asking to take her child away for a life of spiritual training in India, she and her Tibetan husband must make a life-altering choice that will test their faith... and their hearts.
THE OLDEST BOY is Sarah Ruhl at her imaginative best- a richly emotional journey filled with music, dance, puppetry, laughter, intimate moments and infinite meanings.
