The Modern Movie Musical- Rotten or Fresh?

Ever since Chicago hit the big screen in 2002, Hollywood has re-embraced the movie musical. On October 5, a new title joins the genre when A Star Is Born, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, is released. At least for now, the film is Certified Fresh, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95%, but will it hold up?
Way Off Broadway Opens 2018 With SHREK the Musical

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, the area's only year-round producing theatre, kicks off its 2018 Mega-Mini Season with Shrek The Musical. The hit Broadway production will mark the beginning of Way Off Broadway's 24th Season of bringing live stage entertainment to the region. Shrek opens January 12th.

The UK's GUARDIAN reports Pen lope Cruz has signed on to be the next 'Bond' girl in Sam Mendes' follow up to SKYFALL. The actress, whose husband Javier Bardem appeared as the villain in the recent James Bond entry, will begin filming her role next summer.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre will open its production of Nine (The Musical) on Friday, February 6, 2009. Directed and choreographed by Amy Nielson, with musical direction by Joe Simiele, Nine was the winner of numerous Tony awards, including Best Musical and Score in 1982 and Best Revival in 2003, and will soon be made into a movie.. It features a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The musical was inspired by Federico Fellini's movie 8 1/2 and was adapted from the Italian by Marrio Fratti.
CCCT's production features Derrick Silva as Guido Contini, a famous Italian film director. His last three films have been flops. A creative block sends him into the fearful throws of a mid-life crisis, questioning his life's direction and his own mortality. What does an artist do if he cannot create?
