Review: THE MUSIC MAN at Musicals at Richter
by Sean Fallon - Jul 29, 2023

On Friday, July 28th, I had the pleasure of seeing yet another phenomenal performance by Musicals at Richter, in Danbury, CT, Meredith Willson’s THE MUSIC MAN.  Musicals at Richter has a talent in making their outdoor venue feel like the perfect venue for every show they put on, including THE MUSIC MAN, as the moon shines from behind the trees backstage!  They also manage to get the perfect cast for each show, with each cast member excelling at the role they play, as the cast gels together as a collective group of highly talented local performers who are spectacular in their stage presence, stage chemistry with each other, acting, singing, dancing, and ability to radiate positive vibes from the stage, helping the audience enjoy watching them perform as much as the cast enjoys performing!  The directing of David Halliwell combines with the musical directing of Peter Randazzo, and the choreography of Lindsay Miller to help maximize the talents of this stellar cast!

Review: KING HAMLIN, Park Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - Oct 25, 2022

The writer packs it with top-shelf themes. Racism, inequality, unemployment, masculinity, gang culture, social media, street violence, class, education. The failure of a system that should support but only cuts. Sadly, this play isn’t the abundance of richness it could be.

Review: THE MOORS, The Hope Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - Oct 14, 2022

Phil Bartlett presents the British première with a sinister wink and eerie humour, but the text is a mismatch of gothic tropes and too unsure of its identity for the production to come together well. It's astonishing how the narrative lack of focus is as prominent as the precision of the direction and technical side of the show is.

Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin may be famous for introducing the tune of “Here Comes The Bride” to the world but there’s much more here in this stirring tale. Photo Flash: First Look at QUIXOTE NUEVO at Huntington Theatre Company
by Stephi Wild - Nov 20, 2019

In Quixote Nuevo, one of literature's most vibrant and memorable characters, Cervantes' Don Quixote is boldly brought to life by award-winning playwright Octavio Solis and director KJ Sanchez in this hilarious and imaginative adaption of the classic novel. Transported to a border town in Texas, the eccentric, brilliant knight embarks on a cross-desert quest to reunite with a long-lost love. Chased by Death himself a?" in the form of roving bands of guitar-playing Calacas a?" Quixote always leads with his heart in a world of people led astray by their brains. Quixote Nuevo, which received its world premiere at California Shakespeare Company in 2018, is a rich, contemporary, theatrical fable that has been created anew by Solis. Emilio Delgado, who is returning to Quixote Nuevo after originating the titular role, is best known for his 44-year run as beloved repairman Luis on the iconic PBS children's show a?oeSesame Street.a??

BWW Review: Circle Players' 2019 Staging of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Shouldn't Be Missed
by Jeffrey Ellis - Oct 21, 2019

I love The Rocky Horror Show and Clint Randolph and his stellar ensemble of performers have won me over! Their 2019 production of The Rocky Horror Show is incredibly good, outlandishly fun and faithful to the material. Clearly, it ain't your grandma's musical theater (well, actually, it is a?' seeing as how the show bowed in the West End in 1973 and played Broadway in 1975, concurrent with the release of the film version), but it hews pretty damn close to traditional tropes with its boy and girl meets transsexual mastermind who's created a hot and hunky boytoy to satisfy his longings and, well, all hell breaks loose as their stories are told.
