Gray Lady Entertainment presents the Off-Broadway premiere of Janie Condon: Raw & Unchained! – a new play written and performed by award-winning comedian Jane Condon about why she does comedy. From not being voted funniest in high school (Mary Del Sordo was!) to unintentionally ending up in a go-go cage! And how being the younger sister of a bipolar brother and daughter of an FBI agent colored her life experiences. Previews are set to begin April 4, prior to its official opening April 5, at St. Luke's Theatre (308 West 46th Street). Gus Kaikkonen, who helmed Mint Theatre's revivals of Doctor Knock, Or the Triumph of Medicine and The Voysey Inheritance directs.
Janie Condon: Raw & Unchained! is a hilarious and moving account of how the comedian was affected by her brother's mental illness. Ms. Condon has been a storyteller and comedian since she was born the youngest of four in an Irish Catholic family and wanted attention. She learned comedy at the knees of the masters, her fellow students at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton, Massachusetts. Jane was named the NY Audience Favorite on NBC's Last Comic Standing and has been called "an upper crust Roseanne" by the Associated Press.
