Berlin 1931

The film takes place in Berlin, 1931. Jakob Fabian works in the advertising department of a cigarette factory by day and drifts through bars, brothels and artist studios with his wealthy friend Labude by night. When Fabian meets the beautiful and confident Cornelia, he manages to shed his pessimistic attitude for a brief moment and falls in love.

If what you know about 'Cabaret' is informed by the classic 1972 movie which made Liza Minnelli a superstar, you owe yourself to see the Tony-winning musical stage version like the one at community-based Sherman Playhouse. Director Bradford Blake, inspired by London's Donmar Warehouse 1993 revival which made it to Studio54 in 1998, creates a solid, engaging production that is both faithful to the cautionary theme of the original Broadway production and authentic to the raw and seedy world of the decadent Kit Kat Klub, Berlin 1931.

Valentine's Day is just over a week away, and it's time to make plans for that special someone. A box of chocolates can make a good gift, but not very creative. You can send an expensive dozen roses, but after a few days they wilt and become are thrown away. The season will start with the Kander and Ebb musical Cabaret and will include Shakespeare, Neil Simon and a new play by Sarah Ruhl, Dead Man's Cell Phone.

Trinity Rep is proud to announce that its 2009-2010 season will start with a bang: Cabaret will kick off what promises to be a lively year of love and levity at Trinity Rep. The scintillating musical written by Joe Masteroff with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb will be followed by the touching romantic comedy Shooting Star by Steven Dietz (October-November); the classic hijinks of William Shakespeare?s Twelfth Night (will also be the focus of Project Discovery Plus educational slot) (January-February); MacArthur Fellow Sarah Ruhl?s quirky look at modern connections, Dead Man?s Cell Phone (February-March); Neil Simon?s inimitable touchstone of American comedy, The Odd Couple (April-May); and Pamela Gien?s lyrical and haunting drama, The Syringa Tree (April-May). The unified curtain time of 7:30 PM for all evening performances will continue in addition to 2 PM matinees. A Christmas Carol will follow this schedule with the exception of Sundays, when performances will occur at noon and 5 PM.
