Disney's landmark musical event, THE LION KING, has set a new box office record at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre by grossing $1,692,957 during the eight-performance Thanksgiving holiday week of November 23-29, 2009. The previous Minskoff record was held by THE LION KING, with a gross of $1,691,705 (set week ending 12/30/2007).

The move followed the completion of custom renovations to accommodate the Tony Award-winning production.

TA'REA CAMPBELL, began performances as NALA on Tuesday, March 3 in THE LION KING on Broadway. TA'REA CAMPBELL (Nala), a native of Philadelphia, joins the Broadway company after touring for three years as Nala in both the Cheetah and Gazelle tours of Lion King. Also on Broadway: Little Shop of Horrors; Standby for the title role in Aida.

Disney Theatrical Productions and Mandalay Bay have announced the award-winning Broadway phenomenon THE LION KING that is coming to the Mandalay Bay Theatre will delay the scheduled opening dates to 'provide additional time for the transformation of Mandalay Bay Theatre to accommodate the spectacular set' according to a press release. THE LION KING was originally planned to have preview performances begin on April 20th and an official opening on May 2nd, 2009. The new opening night is now set for May 15th, 2009 with preview performances beginning May 5th, 2009.

The program will culminate on Saturday, January 31 as the students will have a chance to see Disney's THE LION KING and have the exclusive opportunity to meet the cast. Since 1994, Kaleidoscope -a nationally recognized and awarded program - has been the only program of its kind in Arizona and nationally that educates and exposes students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live theater.

The Tokyo production of The Lion King was the first to be mounted after the show's award-winning New York City debut and is the second longest-running staging of the show, after Broadway.
