Joffrey Ballet Opens 20th Chicago Anniversary Season with STORIES IN MOTION This Weekend

The Joffrey Ballet celebrates its 20th anniversary of calling Chicago home in the 2014-15 season. Artistic Director Ashley Wheater opens the season with 'Stories in Motion,' a special one-weekend-only addition to the Joffrey's usual three-program subscription season. This program, exploring the concept of 'story ballet' with works that each tell a story in a freshly conceived way, features the return of two Joffrey repertory favorites, George Balanchine's Prodigal Son and Antony Tudor's Lilac Garden, along with the Joffrey/Chicago Premiere of Yuri Possokhov's Asian-themed RAkU. The Joffrey presents 'Stories in Motion' in five performances only at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 East Congress Parkway, this weekend, September 18 - 21.
Solti Foundation U.S. Announces Collaboration with Florentine Opera Company

The Solti Foundation U.S. today announced details of an exciting new pilot residency project with the Grammy Award winning Florentine Opera Company to take place this 2014-15 season. The collaboration offers invaluable opera experience to two young conductors. Each three-week residency will provide private coaching and mentorship from Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Joseph Rescigno, and opportunities for conducting staging/orchestra rehearsals, banda and/or off-stage chorus. During their time in Milwaukee, the residents will also attend all music and staging rehearsals and the opening night performance, as well as other duties as assigned.

NY Fashion Week will be more exciting this year for fashionistas, theater lovers and philantropists! The House of Roderick will bring together fashion and a beautiful, thought-provoking theatrical show comprised of experienced performers from different disciplines- from actors, music composers to dancers and a samurai sword martial artist. Conceptualized by the founder of The House of Roderick, Roderick Gunsell, the performing ensemble is Kashimi Asai, Mari Yamamoto, Koji Nishiyama, Akiko Tokuoka, Anna Bredikhina, Sarah Groginsky, Joyce Laoagan, Nora Mountrane, Andy Miyamotto and Emi Ueda. Photo illustrator- Kristy Garcia, Music composers - Milton Nunez Mora and Elena Ryepkina. Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to 'Give A Chance Children's Foundation' which caters to children in El Salvador and other underdeveloped countries.

Pianist Ilya Yakushev will replace guest pianist Jose Feghali, who had to withdraw due to illness, for the Utah Symphony performance tonight, July 18 at 7:30 PM at the Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater in Park City. In announcing the first season of concerts curated under her artistic directorship Lisa Bielawa has made public details of the 40-voice, Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus 2014-2015 season. The season of five programs will run October 4, 2014 through June 5, 2015 and be capped off by a tour to Nordic countries including Estonia, Finland and Sweden. The season concerts will be conducted by Music Director Valerie Sainte-Agathe and will highlight music by Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, Carla Kihlstedt Schubert, Beethoven, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Ralf Yusuf Gawlick, Philip Glass, John Adams, John Cage, Lou Harrison, Meredith Monk and others and feature guest artists including pianistJon Nakamatsu and violinist/composer Carla Kihlstedt. Of particular note will be the West Coast premiere of Kinderkreuzzug (2010), an anti-war cantata by German-Turkish composer Ralf Yusuf Gawlick set on a 1941 poem by Bertoldt Brecht. In addition to the annual Davies Hall holiday concert, the Girls Chorus this year will collaborate with New Century Chamber Orchestra for seasonal performances. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association announces the 2014/15 season programming for its acclaimed MusicNOW contemporary music series—dedicated to showcasing contemporary music through an innovative concert experience. Uniquely curated by CSO Mead Composers-In-Residence Mason Bates and Anna Clyne, the annual, four-concert series in 2014/15 presents a range of work from major musical figures such as Pierre Boulez and established contemporary talents such as John Luther Adams and Michael Gordon. Programs are performed by members of the CSO and guest artists led by MusicNOW principal conductor Cliff Colnot and guest conductors, which this year includes James Feddeck, winner of the 2013 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award.
