Opera Naples Raises Over $18,000 For Rebuilding Fund At ¡Olé! A Celebration Of Spanish Song

Opera Naples music patrons recently gathered for ¡Olé! A Celebration of Spanish Song, a fundraiser in support of the Opera Naples Rebuilding Fund. More than $18,000 was raised to support Opera Naples rebuild efforts following significant damage to the Wang Opera Center performance space from Hurricane Ian.

Award-winner Angel Blue started off the proceedings at the Richard Tucker Gala (after Barry Tucker’s usual introduction/ode to his father, the great tenor) with a bang: Puccini’s justly famous aria “Vissi d’arte” from TOSCA. For those of us who’ve only heard her as Bess in Gershwin’s PORGY & BESS at the Met, it was a revelation to hear her lush, velvety voice raise the rafters on the hall, with no warm up.

Digidance Presents The Canadian Premiere Of Alexander Ekman's PLAY With Paris Opera Ballet

DanceHouse, in partnership with Digidance, kicks off its third season with the Canadian premiere of acclaimed Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman's Play, streaming Nov. 7–27, 2022. Originally created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 2017, Play transforms the historic Palais Garnier into a vast playground for 36 dancers who are encouraged to improvise with the sets and its elements. In one particularly iconic scene that is characteristic of Ekman's spectacular visual compositions, 40,000 green balls are unleashed upon the stage.
