The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announced that Gregory Doran will step down as Artistic Director from today after 35 years with the Company including the last ten years as Artistic Director.

Play On Shakespeare, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to exploring the world of Shakespeare in performance through translation and adaptation, today announces their spring/summer 2022 season. Lue Douthit, President and Co-Founder says: 'Well, the theater world is definitely opening up. We literally mean 'world' (Prague, Guam, England) and suddenly there are ten professional productions of Play On translations opening in the next few months, including two in San Francisco (African-American Shakespeare Company and Cal Shakes). Headlong and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse have today announced the complete cast and creative team for Corrina, Corrina, a new play by award-winning Liverpool-based playwright Chloe Moss (Run Sister, Run, Love Liverpool), directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director Holly Race Roughan (Metamorphoses).

Signature Theatre has extended the New York premiere of Dominique Morisseau’s Confederates, directed by Stori Ayers to April 24. The production, running in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 W. 42nd Street, New York), opened March 27.

Production images have been released for the world premiere of The Fever Syndrome, Alexis Zegerman’s thrilling portrait of a brilliantly dysfunctional family.  Directed by Hampstead Theatre’s Artistic Director, Roxana Silbert, The Fever Syndrome will run until 30 April 2022. 

CSC will host a one-night-only benefit staged reading of Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare, directed by Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler. This production will feature Christian Coulson (Harry Potter, The Hours, Mozart in the Jungle, Nashville) as Angelo and features a dynamic cast of the area’s extraordinary talent. 

'Il Était Une Fois' or 'Once Upon A Time' is the theme of this year's Festival d'Avignon. Olivier Py announced the programme this past Thursday in Avignon, where he has been the artistic director since 2014. 2022 marks his final year in the role, as he will be passing the torch to artist Tiago Rodrigues. Born in Lisbon in 1977, Rodrigues is the first non French artistic director since the Festival's founding. His production of Chekhov's Cherry Orchard, La Cerisaie in French, headlined in the Festival's Cour d'Honneur in 2021.

Previews begin tonight, April 1, for Lincoln Center Theater's production of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic The Skin of Our Teeth. The production opens on Monday, April 25 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Meet the cast here!

The African-American Shakespeare Company returns this April with their first-ever production of Richard II. In addition to it being in a modern verse translation, the director L. Peter Callender is structuring it as a memory play, where the narrative begins at the end and works its way forward.

While best known for his roles in film, Hurt got his start on the stage in the 1970s. He appeared on Broadway in Hurlyburly in 1984, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award. Hurt also performed in various off-Broadway productions including Henry V, Fifth of July, Richard II and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
