Waiting for Godot - West End History , Info & More

Theatre Royal Haymarket
18 Suffolk Street London SW1Y 4HT London

Lucian Msamati and Ben Whishaw star in one of the greatest plays of the 20th century – Samuel Beckett’s masterpiece, Waiting for Godot, directed by James Macdonald.

Didi and Gogo wait by a tree for a man named Godot. They don’t know who he is, why they are meeting or what time he is coming – only that something incredible could happen when he does...

“Let us do something, while we have the chance…at this place, at this moment of time, all mankind is us, whether we like it or not. Let us make the most of it before it is too late!”

Don’t miss the play that changed the rules. Waiting for Godot opens at the historic Theatre Royal Haymarket for a strictly limited season from September 2024.

Review: WAITING FOR GODOT at Geffen Playhouse
by Evan Henerson - Nov 19, 2024

As embodied by Rainn Wilson and Aasif Mandvi in the revival of GODOT at the Geffen Playhouse, Vladimir and Estragon are a formidable pair. Beckett’s play about the unknowable darkness of the human condition has - go figure! - long been catnip for comedians, and you get why Wilson and Mandvi would want a whack at them.

Review: BARCELONA, Duke of York's Theatre
by Aliya Al-Hassan - Oct 31, 2024

A couple crash through the door of a Barcelona apartment in a passionate embrace, but this ardour quickly cools as cultural and personal clashes take over. Collins and Morte are both impressively natural on stage, but without their billing, it is highly doubtful this play would have made it to the West End.

Review: WAITING FOR GODOT, Theatre Royal Haymarket
by Cindy Marcolina - Sep 20, 2024

A country road. A tree. Evening. Two figures commiserate with each other’s woes. “Nothing to be done”. We have to wait 35 years to receive a really revolutionary new take on Waiting for Godot: Samuel Beckett’s estate still has too much power over any revival of the 20th century classic. James Macdonald’s starry cast is, obviously, the draw here: Ben Whishaw returns to the West End as Vladimir, the restless soul of the pair, while Lucian Msamati is the forgetful Estragon. It’s an excellent opportunity to see a handful of our most exquisite performers at work.
