Once again those summer months are upon us but that doesn't mean we can't still spend some time in a darkened theater. Here are my top picks for summer shows happening around the Seattle area.

Psycho Beach Party from Fantastic Z
May 26th - June 11th

A comedic nod to the teenage beach movies of the 1960's by queer playwright Charles Busch. It's hard enough being a teenage girl on Malibu Beach who just wants to be a surfer like one of the guys. It's even harder when you have a split personality. Surf's up for Chicklet and her friends

I can already tell you this one's a winner as is evident from my review.

Intiman Theatre Festival
May 24th - Oct 2nd

Intiman Theatre is proud to produce a festival driven by the community. In response to a demand for more stories from bold, diverse voices we are presenting great American Plays by Black women for our 2016 Festival. Featuring such plays as Stick Fly by Lydia R. Diamond and Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White by Alice Childress and more.

9 Circles from Strawberry Theatre Workshop
June 2nd through 25th

Bill Cain's unnerving re-imagining of Dante's Inferno. 9 Circles offers a furious journey through one wayward soldier's transgression, judgment, and penance amid the fallout of the Iraq War.

Big Fish at Taproot Theatre
July 6th - August 13th

Every man wants to be a hero to his own son. Edward's never been much of a dad, but as fantasy wages war with reality his tall tales of mermaids and giants may make his son a better man. Let yourself be reeled in by this adventurous and romantic musical based on the beloved novel and award-winning film.

Twister Beach at Café Nordo
July 7th - July 30th

Lampooning the Seattleite travelling abroad, this cabaret show centers around a foursome of young lovers just trying to have a little fun at a very dangerous beach with violent storms and man-eating sharks. An immersive and interactive production complete with beach games, classic summer sing-a-longs, dancing, squirt guns, a live band, tropical food, and tiki drinks; Twister Beach may be the best staycation Seattle has to offer.

Daisy at ACT Theatre
July 8th - August 7th

A world premiere based on a true story. While a presidential election is looming, turmoil over civil rights is spilling onto the streets, a fearful ideology is growing from the conservative right, and the threat of nuclear war is palpable. Daisy explores the moment in history where the most infamous political commercial ever made was created by a group of ad-men working for Lyndon B. Johnson and forever changed how we elect our leaders.

Seattle Outdoor Theatre Festival
July 9th - July 10th

The sixteenth annual Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival at Volunteer Park brings together eight local theater companies presenting sixteen performances over two days.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder at 5th Avenue Theatre
July 12th - July 31st

Gentleman's Guide tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession, by any means necessary. All the while, he's got to juggle his mistress (she's after more than just love), his fiancée (she's his cousin but who's keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance... and be done in time for tea.
