NoFit State Circus returns to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with two new shows this summer, BIANCO in the Big Top from today, 2nd - 26th August and NOODLES at New Town Theatre from 2nd - 25th August.
Over the past 28 years, NoFit State has developed a unique genre of circus and live performance. Celebrating the contradictions within themselves and their work, they create Beautiful Carnage and Organized Anarchy. The company has enjoyed previous Edinburgh Fringe success and sell out runs with the 'Total Theatre Award' winning tabù and 'Tap Water Award' winning ImMortal.
This year, BIANCO and NOODLES will be running side-by-side for the duration of the festival. Very different in essence, they reflect the diverse range of work that NoFit State, the 'pioneers of UK contemporary circus' produce and echo the ever-evolving landscape of British circus.
BIANCO will be presented in the iconic silver spaceship and launch a new Fringe venue, on the old Fountainbridge Brewery site. In the style of ImMortal and tabù, BIANCO is an epic immersive promenade experience.
NOODLES is a completely different style of circus show. Created for a circus audience in a theatre space, it will be premiering at New Town Theatre before a UK and European tour.
These two ground-breaking productions both challenge the preconceptions of contemporary circus.
Seductive, thrilling and enchanting, BIANCO_Turning Savage is the new NoFit State contemporary circus spectacular. BIANCO is a return to the company's roots and iconic immersive, promenade work, an all consuming theatrical experience combining intoxicating live music, gravity defying circus and stunning costume design in a constantly evolving environment. Director Firenza Guidi says "A village, a community, a travelling world, BIANCO is the story of a great journey inside and outside of ourselves. The story of a battle between beauty and brutality, the fragility of lost selves, of lost wishes and desires..."
BIANCO brings together the best UK and worldwide performers with a broad range of circus skills: swinging trapeze, aerial straps and rope, cloudswing, dance trapeze, trampoline, juggling, hand-balance and acrobatics. Jaw-dropping technique and high energy theatricality make BIANCO one of this years' most awaited circus performances and is part of the British Council programme of work. This run of shows follows sell-out performances at the London Roundhouse, Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre, Brighton Fringe and Bristol's Creative Common.
Directed by Finland's hottest circus director Maksim Komaro (Circo Aereo, Petit Mal, Cirk La Putyka), Noodles is a run at the barriers between circus and theatre, a fresh perspective on the boundaries between art forms, and how to put circus into theatres and not theatre into circus: NOODLES has no pretention to be serious theatre but it is serious circus and seriously fun.
In a sea of irreverent chaos and a world of knots, wires and spaghetti, a surreal cooking show loses the plot as the noodles take over. Aerialists, hand-balancers, wire-walkers, contortionists and magicians twist and bend the frontiers of reality in a groundbreaking production that challenges the preconceptions of circus.
With a cast of international performers, NOODLES will be premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe before setting off on a UK and European tour.
