Figs In Wigs/Escalator East to Edinburgh present: Show Off, a variety show with no variety from live art collective. More fun than you can shake a fig at...
You're so vain you probably think this show is about you. But it's actually about Figs in Wigs - the lowbrow answer to avant-garde. Show Off delves deep into our shallow digital existence, examining how social media has bred a new form of narcissism. Masquerading as a variety show this desperately glitzy number continually reinvents itself to satisfy even the most depleted of attention spans.
In a self-obsessed effort to tick every box these jacks-of-all-trades are on a journey of reinvention. Witness Figs in Wigs find their calling as stand up comedians, dancers, circus extraordinaires, visual artists and musicians. After all, nowadays one trick ponies rarely make the cut. On the surface this may seem like a shallow display of narcissism, but underneath the neon lights Figs in Wigs are delving deep into modern society's fixation with themselves.
Figs in Wigs are returning to Edinburgh Fringe after last year's success We Object, which delighted audiences and critics alike. As one of the UK's leading emerging performance companies, you can expect a unique blend of trashy dance routines, alternative comedy and passion for fashionable fruit. Figs in Wigs provided choreography in Bryony Kimmings' Catherine Bennett pop videos and perform regularly with Total Theatre Award winner Scottee. Expect excessive use of puns, obscure cultural references and unconventional choreography, all washed down with a bottle of WKD (or two).
Show Off has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator, East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
