Manchester cabaret trio Eggs Collective will be performing a limited run of their hit show Get A Round at Edinburgh Fringe this August, before a special edition of the show is broadcast on BBC Two television.
Returning to the festival after a smash run at midnight on the Free Fringe in 2014, Eggs Collective have spent the last two years touring the acclaimed show nationally and have recently adapted the show for BBC Two's Performance Live strand, in partnership with Battersea Arts Centre and Arts Council England. Filmed in front of a live audience of punters at Manchester's legendary Star and Garter pub (home to The Morrissey Smiths disco for 22 years), the TV show has been made in Manchester by a female-led creative team, including script editor Caroline Moran (Raised By Wolves) and director Barbara Wiltshire (High Spirits With Shirley Ghostman, Frankie Boyle's New World Order).
Set against the backdrop of a massive night out, Get A Round is a funny, messy and unflinching look at friendship and belonging. In a world that's going to the dogs, Eggs Collective wonder if the basic principles of a massive night out might make the planet a better place. The show features well-crafted writing, dark comedy, musical numbers and raucous, loving audience interactions.
Lowri Evans of Eggs Collective said: "We're delighted to be returning to Edinburgh with Get A Round. At the end of the run, we'll be looking forward to the television debut of the show, which we've adapted especially for BBC Two. We've become a pop-up Production Company and have worked with a team of exceptional women to make it happen. We filmed at Manchester's legendary boozer, The Star and Garter, home to The Smiths disco for 22 years. This run at Summerhall is an unmissable chance to experience the live show in all its visceral, technicolor mess."
Eggs Collective Get A Round explores politics under the guise of a girls' night out. In the face of continuing bad news and an increasingly divided and unequal Britain, this show asks how can we get through such confusion and look after each other in times of difficulty. The show hit a nerve with audiences and is part of a wave of politically conscious theatre that asks 'and now what?'. It is angry and fights with love.
Léonie Higgins of Eggs Collective said: "We started making Get A Round in 2014 as a response to a world that we see as being increasingly divide and conquer. In fact, so much has happened on the world's political stage since then, we think it's more relevant now than it's ever been."
Sara Cocker of Eggs Collective said: "When we brought Get A Round to the Fringe three years ago, we were on in a tiny, sweltering attic at midnight. We had audience members crammed in, all around our feet. It was quite an experience. Since then, we've done two national tours and this year have adapted an all-singing all-dancing version for the BBC. We can't wait to get back to Edinburgh, where it all began, this time with guaranteed seating for all audience members."
Eggs Collective Get A Round is at Summerhall 9:10 pm from today 2nd through 25th August. The television edition is currently scheduled for broadcast later this year as part of BAC and ACE's Performance Live strand on BBC Two.
