EDINBURGH 2022: Brennan Reece Q&A Image

BWW catches up with Brennan Reece to chat about bringing Crowded to the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Tell us a bit about Crowded.

The past few years have been some of the unfunniest, loneliest, disconnected years I have ever experienced. And I thought that would be a fun thing to explore. It sounds quite full on, but when you get into the nitty gritty it's actually all quite light hearted and silly. I found myself recently not being able to hold conversations with people, so I thought why not do a show that forces me to do that.

Is it more nerve-wracking doing a show that changes with each audience?

No, that is what it is all about. There is nothing that keeps you more stagnant than just pressing play on your material and spouting out the same stuff 30 times. I love those moments that can only happen once in a show, because of the configuration of audience members. I think that is what everyone deep down lives for.

Where might we have seen you before?

Live At The Apollo. Roast Battle. My Mum's house on a Sunday for a roast dinner. I pop up all over the country in every comedy club, and occasionally you'll see my daft head appear on the telly too.

Do you think you know what to expect from the festival?

Not this year. It could be the most glorious, packed festival, but because of the past couple of years and the current climate, it might just be all of us yelling jokes at empty chairs in a portacabin. I hope it's the first option.

Who would you like to come and see Crowded?

It would be amazing if a huge celeb just popped in, a hero like a Billy Connolly. But honestly, I am excited for my family to see it. They are the ones who I do this for, as they have supported me since day one...and I think the shows when my Mum and Dad in are always the most special to me.

Venue: Pleasance - Baby Grand (Venue 33)

Dates: 3rd to 29th August 2022

Time: 8.20pm (9.20pm)
