EDINBURGH 2018: Review: GRAINNE MAGUIRE: I FORGIVE YOU; PLEASE LIKE ME, Gilded Balloon ImageThe purpose behind Grainne Maguire's show this year is to let us know that she is not what you would call "a lovely girl". Citing lovely girls as a sort of Holly Willoughby type or the kind you would see entering the Rose Of Tralee- that's just not her.

Grainne Maguire is confident that she is always right. This has led to some problems in dating as this level of confidence isn't typically lovely girl behaviour. She goes into some amusing anecdotes about her recent dating history and being asked to do comedy to a particularly tough crowd.

Maguire's self-depreciating humour is well received and I particularly enjoyed a niche Corrs remark and Sound of Music references.

I Forgive You; Please Like Me is a fairly political show and Maguire weaves together her own views and how they relate to her personal life. This is a confident hour from a hugely likeable (though not lovely) performer.
