BWW catches up with Lucy Bevan to chat about bringing Zoo to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about Zoo.
Zoo is about two women, Bonnie and Carol - one in America and one in the UK, who both work with and love animals and who have both had a tricky time with people. When the going gets tough - their friendship helps them through.
It has high winds, flamingoes, bats, giant otters and lot of laughs. It's performed by me and fab actress Lorna Beckett with cameos from Jim Rastall and award nominated comic Mike Wozniak.
What was the inspiration behind the play?
It's based on the real story of the hurricane hitting a zoo in Miami last year and how the zoo keepers responded. The story then jumps to Yorkshire and another animal chapter.
Who would you recommend comes to see Zoo?
Everyone (except very young kids!)
What do you hope audiences take away from the play?
That it is a show about the glorious power and poetry of women's lives but it also has a uniqueness - a hurricane and flamingos in it - and in a similar way to other shows - many female-led narratives are coming into the spotlight this year! Woohoo!
Are there any other shows you're hoping to see in Edinburgh?
John Henry Falle - The Storybeast, the most magical glorious grizzly imaginative kids show on the block; Fils Monkey - Fab French drummers; Jason Donovan at Assembly; Rachel Parris
Zoo is at Assembly George Square Studio Four from August 2nd - 26th (not 13th, not 20th @ 11am
