BWW catches up with Thumpasaurus to chat about the shows they're bringing to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about Thumpasaurus.
Thumpasaurus is a five piece punk/funk band that draws its influence from a species of shamanic dinosaur that existed in pre-historic times. We specialize in making people dance, sweat and enjoy themselves.
Why come to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?
We are returning to the Edinburgh Fringe because the audience is very very smart out here. It's an incredibly inspiring place to be and we get to learn from the most innovative people across all mediums. This motivates us to be our most creative and experimental selves while still managing to be engaging. We're also coming back because we like to play music a lot and we get to do that every night so yeah that's cool.
What sets Thumpasaurus apart from the other events at the festival?
Thumpasaurus is a huge and outrageous dance party. It is where people will go to release themselves from the intensity of a day at the fringe. It is a show where the band is having the time of their lives and in return, the audience is too.
Who would you recommend comes along?
Thumpasaurus is for everyone who enjoys live music. There is plenty to listen to if you don't like to dance and there is plenty to dance to if you don't like to listen. Last year we had people range in age from 18-70, so everyone is welcome. Just come dance.
And you're involved in a second show as well?
Yup we're doing a second show with our comedian/clown friends Zach, Jonny and Viggo of Zach & Viggo. We wrote an opera called Where Does The Love Go?, which we'll be adapting into an hour-long stage show. It's essentially a sci-fi melodrama that takes place in a post-space war, futuristic world where Jeff Bezos and the Amazon Empire control the world. It is very serious art, as it is a critique of capitalism and the pursuit of convenience. We are excited.
Thumpasaurus is at Underbelly Cowgate - White Belly August 3rd-5th, 10th-12th, 17th-19th, 24th-26th
