BWW speaks to Adele Cliff about taking Sheep to the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tell us a bit about your show Sheep.
My show is all about being an individual, trying to fit in and working out if I'm a sheep or not.
It's my debut hour at the festival and I'm really looking forward to having people see it as I've worked really hard to produce an hour that is full of jokes and fun and will leave people smiling. I love writing jokes, so my show is packed with them.
How have you been preparing for your first hour at the Fringe?
A lot of training montages to Eye of the Tiger, sprinting up and down hills and telling jokes whilst juggling medicine balls.
Who would you recommend comes to see Sheep?
Absolutely everyone is invited. If you think you might be a bit of a sheep, come along. If you think you're a nerd, come along. If you want to meet a new friend for picnics and trampolining, come along. Anybody who likes one-liners, science, sport or animals, there's something for all of you and something for all the ewe.
I think my show is different because I'm one of very few acts at the festival who combines one liners and anecdotes, so my gag rate is very high and I think my show will be a really fun and memorable hour for anyone who comes.
Also, anyone who attends my show automatically gets to be my friend, and that's a very cool and exclusive club.
What are the benefits of doing a Pay What You Want show?
I think it allows people to find something new and different. If you haven't had to pay in advance, you feel like you can take a chance on someone. It's more accessible for people who can't afford to see a lot at the more expensive venues and as the performer I can put a numerical value on exactly how much each individual likes me (sometimes this is not a benefit).
