Tell us a bit about Whore: A Kid's Play
WHORE: A Kid's Play takes a lens to the implications of gender performance in American society. It sheds light on the consequences of being born into and growing up in the modern world. While the thematic content is heavy, our playwright Reese Thompson harnesses the power of comedy and dance to make the discussion palatable and fun for a broad audience.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
Given the recent political shift in America, we, as artists, have a responsibility to connect with other countries and cultures in a more immediate way. By bringing WHORE: A Kid's Play to Edinburgh, coupled with our other co-production with Squire Lane Theatrical,
Joy Donze: 13 & Not Pregnant, we are offering up the possibility of discussing how the American institutions that are put into place to support and educate our youth often fail. On a more universal scale this creates citizens of the world that are a detriment to our planet and society.
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
Most of the artists who are involved with this piece are also members of Baby Crow Productions. Our mission is to generate work that inspires tangible positive change in the world. We hope that these shows encourage our audiences to assess how they are interacting with and taking care of our youth.
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
Anyone that had an imperfect childhood!
Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?
As I will only be at the festival until August 8th I am hoping to cram in as much as possible. While perusing the Fringe program the shows listed below caught my eye. I'm super interested in seeing physical theatre from different countries, so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know!
