Tell us a bit about Macblair.

'Macblair' is the story of Tony Blair as a Shakespearean tragicomedy. The three witches of 'Macbeth' appear here as three weird hacks, who orchestrate the story of Blair's rise and fall, beginning with three prophecies that set him on his path. While the conventions of 'Macbeth' are present throughout, the story of Blair follows it's own trajectory, with Brown appearing as a Banquo/Macduff antagoniser, and Alastair Campbell taking on the Lady Macbeth mantel.

Performed by 4 actors, the play is a concoction of well-known verses, and newly-penned pentameters, with the style mixing soliloquy with satire, tragedy with farce.. and a House of Commons rap battle!

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

We've just completed a sell-out run at the Brighton Fringe to rave reviews, which coincided nicely with the 20 year anniversary of Blair's coming to power. With all the political machinations buffeting the UK at the moment, it seems like this is the perfect time to explore such a recent political saga, and to trace the path to our current predicament, in a way that resonates strongly with a 2017 audience.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

'Macblair' is a potent exploration of a story that is still relevant and raw. It is also a unique blend of spoken word, verse, sketch comedy and rap.. a configuration you won't see anywhere else!

Who would you recommend comes to see you?

Anyone interested in fatal flaws, and the people behind the politics. Or who just want to be highly entertained.

Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?

Richard Marsh's 'Todd & God' at the Pleasance. His poeticomic dramas are always fab.

Timings and ticket information for Macblair are available on the edfringe website.
