Tell us a bit about Cirkopolis.
Cirkopolis was created in 2012 and has been presented more than 600 times in 30 different countries. It is one of Cirque Éloize biggest international success, and a production that I am particularly proud of. I codirected this production with renowned choreographer Dave St-Pierre. It perfectly blends circus, dance, original choreography, and theatre. Our inspirations came from the movies Metropolis and Brasil, and also from the world of Kafka.
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
Cirque Eloize has only presented one show at the Fringe, and it was almost 20 years ago. On the verge of our 25th anniversary which will be celebrated in 2018, we thought it was a good time to come back with this award winning production. It won the Drama Desk Awards for "Unique Theatrical Experience" in 2014 in New York. We have an extremely talented and mature cast on it, and I'm sure that people will enjoy it.
What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?
I'm told that it is possibly one of the biggest productions at the Fringe this year with 12 artists onstage, and five 5 crew members. The amount of work we have put this production over the years making it perfect, pushing the limits further and further definitely makes it special. I hope that our guests will appreciate the artistry in this production.
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
Everybody, Cirkopolis is for all ages. It has a good dose of humour for kids, poetry for the older people, and a level of artistry that definitely appeals to all audiences.
What do you hope people take away from the show?
I hope they will discover Cirque Eloize if they have never seen one of our productions before. I hope they will enjoy the show's energy, the artists' pleasure of being onstage, and all the little details in the production music and video projections.
