Tell us a bit about Bin Laden: The One Man show.
Bin Laden: The One Man Show is a provocative, sensitive, dangerous, timely piece of theatre which provides a fresh perspective on a story which we are all still reeling from. Bin Laden questions its audience. It asks them to re-examine their thoughts and feelings on the Bin Laden myth and look again at the causes and possible solutions to the Middle Eastern conflict. In light of current world events, Bin Laden always provokes passionate debate in the bar afterwards
Why bring it back to Edinburgh?
We are bringing it back to Edinburgh because, despite selling out in 2013, we have found appetite for the show and the debates it inspires is growing. We are genuinely surprised and shaken to see that it is only becoming more and more relevant and close to home as time goes on. In 2013 we never imagined we would still be touring it in 2017, let alone to the USA! This autumn we are embarking on a national tour of the show to include a return to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester after selling out their studio 2 weeks in advance. Every time we tour the show, we develop it, rewrite, test out a bolder step. So even if you have seen it before you won't have seen this one. It keeps growing, maturing, improving.
What sets this show apart from others at the festival?
This show sets itself apart from others at the fringe because it says what no-one else has been brave enough to say. We have taken enormous risks with the content of this show and it has paid off. And what is more, we make an open invitation to every single member of the audience to discuss the content of this show, with us, straight after the close. We stand by the show and the subsequent debate.
Who would you recommend comes to see you?
This show is for everyone. Anyone who has been directly or indirectly affected by the decisions made by this man and the responses to it. Which is all of us. Anyone, from PhDs to those starting Secondary School, the over 65s and the under 65s, theatre nuts and first-timers. We create a space where everyone can engage with the political dialectics of our time.
Are there any other shows you're hoping to catch at the festival?
The shows we are excited by are: Impermanence Dance Theatre's "sexbox", the sexiest show you will ever see. "Service" by Lauren Mooney. Pauline Mayers "What if I told you". Familia De La Noche have loads of shows up this year. And we keep missing Theatre Ad Infinitum's "Transluna Paradise" so this is our chance!
