About the show:
With 90s musical dance tantrums, heartbreaking journal entries and the severing of dolls' heads, 13 and Not Pregnant presents the aggressively hormonal writings of a Midwestern US 90s pre-teen as she navigates her erratically evolving girlhood. The entire show is verbatim entries from Joy Donze's sixth grade journal, massaged, spliced and diced in the rehearsal room with Director Mia Capotorto Sommese
Why bring it to Edinburgh?
It's been a dream of mine to attend this festival whether it be as a spectator or performer. 13 & Not Pregnant is easy to put up, hilarious, and appropriate for all ages. Edinburgh Fringe is really the world stage and I'm excited to see how it is received by other artists from all over the world. I think the show begs us to think a bit about how we treat our youth, and what they're thinking about during puberty. It's not just sex! But a lot about sex.
This show is universal and relates to everyone who ever went through puberty. Which is, well, everybody! It's vignettes of heightened yet genuine emotions that I set out to document in my 6th grade journal. Now at 30, I've returned to these pages and found it to be crazy funny. It's brilliant emotional rollercoaster that makes more than just good theatre, but actually shows that "the popular girl" is really just thinking the same things as the "not so popular girl."
Anyone who wants to laugh and reminisce of their adolescence. There are also some great 90's and early 2000's references, so if that's your game, you're in for a treat.
All of them? Can I do that? I'd like to support other female solos performers. I'd like to see shows from all over the world. It's fascinating for me to see what kind if theatre is being created and produced globally.
