BWW speaks to Samantha Baines ahead of her 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show 1 Woman, A Dwarf Planet and 2 Cox.
What can you tell us about 1 Woman, A Dwarf Planet and 2 Cox?
There will be science facts, puns and an impression of a duck. The show is my quest to impress Professor Brian Cox (the hottie) by learning about the universe. It's when an obsession goes too far - with jokes!
What inspired the show?
Professor Brian Cox and his wonderful hair.
Is this your first solo show? If yes, is it a bit daunting?
Indeed this is my first solo show, and it will be strange not to be sharing the stage with other performers, which is my usual fringe experience! I hope people don't get bored looking only at my face for an hour - don't worry, I do silly faces to change it up. It's also exciting because this show is something I've written, it's personal, I talk about things I care about and at least I don't have to share the applause at the end #winning
As somewhat of a Fringe veteran - do you think you know what to expect?
Ohhh 'fringe veteran' sounds cool - is there a badge or a free bus pass? I have done seven fringes performing with other people, including my sketch group Vinegar Knickers a few years back. I love Edinburgh and the Festival, and if I've learnt anything it's that when it comes to the Fringe you never know what to expect. Except late-night drinking - that's a given.
Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch at the festival?
Yes, so many, but particularly Bridget Christie, Sofie Hagen, Lucy Lucy and Lucy Barfield by Lucy Grace, Lolly Adafophe, Katherine Ryan, John Hastings, Susan Calman, Beasts and Mr Swallow - Houdini.
Timings and ticket information for 1 Woman, a Dwarf Planet and 2 Cox are available on the edfringe website.
