Bucket Club/Farnham Maltings/Colchester Arts Centre/The Pleasance/Escalator East to Edinburgh present Lorraine & Alan, a playful modern day re-telling of Scottish Selkie myth with live sound design and music at Edinburgh Fringe 2014.

Lorraine & Alan is about a boy who falls in love with a seal. It's about codependency and how those we love shape who we are. It's about moving out of your parents' house and the sleepiness of little England. It's about delicious salty peanuts and a woman who eats them.

Alan is a disillusioned Marine Biology graduate living with his parents in Blakeney, North Norfolk. Whilst working on the seal tours running from Blakeney Point he discovers an unconscious woman amongst the seals. The two fall in love and build a life together until the call of the sea proves too strong for Lorraine.

Drawing upon the Orkney Selkie myth, Bucket Club explore how identity is moulded through those we love, and speak for a generation of graduates raised on promises of a life as straightforward and comfortable as their parents'.

Lorraine & Alan is told with two actors, two musicians and several hundred plastic bottles. The musicians create a live sound design by recording vocals and manipulating them with a computer programme and a specially programmed Wii remote control to build haunting soundscapes and original songs.

Bucket Club are a collective of artists who met at Bristol University and work with live music, new writing and devising to make playfully adventurous theatre. They are an associate company at Farnham Maltings.

Lorraine & Alan is the tenth recipient of The Pleasance's Charlie Hartill fund for theatre. It was developed at the Lyric Hammersmith, Battersea Arts Centre and Bristol Old Vic and is supported by Farnham Maltings, Colchester Arts Centre and The Pleasance.

Lorraine & Alan has been selected for Escalator East To Edinburgh. Each year Escalator East to Edinburgh helps artists and arts organisations to raise their profile and perform to new audiences as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
