It’s Alive!
The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, has adapted his legendarily monstrously funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein! This electrifying musical adaptation will leave you in stitches as SJPlayhouse brings life to the new comedy musical at 3Below.
Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein is based on the 1974 film which itself is a parody of Hollywood horror films from the 1930s. The film starred and was co-written by the late Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks. The musical Young Frankenstein has all the panache of the screen sensation with a little extra theatrical flair added. Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment.
This wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, sees Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”), an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherit a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein. He now faces a dilemma – does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his sexy lab assistant? With the help of his trusty sidekick Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”) and his beautiful leggy lab assistant Inga (pronounced normally), by his side, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s creations. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes from the Transylvania manor and the usual Mel Brooks style hilarity continuously abounds.
You will be shocked! ~ You will be “Puttin’ on the Ritz” – You will have a monstrously good time!
