Inspired by an ancient Japanese fairytale, The Unspeakable Act follows an empress on her journey of sexual discovery with an unlikely lover: a hermit-monk turned demonic sex stud. Through the use of improvisation, dance and 80’s music 23 Elephants has created a show rife with physical comedy and throbbing with innuendo.
The Unspeakable Act debuted at the NYCFringe Festival in the summer of 2002. It played to sold-out houses at the St. Marks Theatre in the East Village. NYTheatre.com hailed it as “the most notably engrossing theatrical opening in recent memory.” In 2004 The Unspeakable Act was performed at the Hell Festival in Williamsburg where it was praised as a spellbinding work and a highlight of The Hell festival.
