The Tony Award®-winning Old Globe is pleased to announce a casting call for male actors aged 10-13 to play the role of “Christopher” in the World Premiere production of Duncan Sheik and Kyle Jarrow's Whisper House, directed by Keith Powell. Auditions will be held June 8, 2009 at The Old Globe (by appointment only). Please submit headshots and resumes to casting@TheOldGlobe.org or Whisper House Casting P.O. Box 122171 San Diego, CA 92112-2171. No phone calls.

Actors should not be members of Actors' Equity, and will be paid hourly (minimum wage), and should be residents of San Diego County. The production dates are: 1st rehearsal 12/15/09; 1st preview 1/13/10; Opening 1/21/10; Closing 2/21/10. “Christopher” is 11 years old and Caucasian. He is an old soul and carries the burden of adulthood, but he is very much a child.  As someone pre-pubescent, sexuality is not something that he has yet discovered and is not part of who he is. The actor(s) playing the role should not be scared of heights. This role will either be double-cast or one actor will understudy the other. This is a non-singing role. Audition materials will be provided as needed.

Tony and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Duncan Sheik follows up his Broadway sensation, Spring Awakening, with this enchanting new musical, Whisper House. Set in 1942 during the height of World War II, Americans are being asked to do their part to help their country win the war, including Lily and her Japanese assistant, the caretakers of a remote lighthouse. When Lily’s young nephew Christopher comes to stay with her, he begins to think his new home is haunted.  When the spirits reveal themselves to Christopher, he is required to grow up quickly and make decisions that are usually left up to grownups. Should he trust these mischievous spirits whose songs only he can hear, or should he trust the grownups around him that still treat him like a kid? The beautiful tale reminds us all that fear and misguided assumptions can lead anyone down a road of no return. Running January 13 – February 21, 2010 in the Old Globe Theatre.
