Lamb's Players Present THE GLASS MENAGERIE 4/10-5/24

Lamb’s Players Theatre will follow up its season opener, Room Service, with one of the greatest plays of the American theatre, The Glass Menagerie. The production plays April 10 – May 24 at Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado, with a media opening on Friday, April 17 at 8:00pm.
 
The Glass Menagerie introduced America to a new writer named Tennessee Williams, and the modern stage was never the same. Williams' spare, poetic story of his own family life etched a striking portrait of four unforgettable characters: the haunted Tom Wingfield, his vivacious, indomitable mother Amanda, his shy sister Laura who spends hours in the world of her fragile glass animal collection, and the charming "Gentleman Caller" who just might change all their fortunes. San Diego's Ensemble Theatre takes on a great ensemble drama — in a production that will move audiences and create fresh awe at the artistry of one of our master playwrights.
 
Directed by Producing Artistic Director Robert Smyth, the cast of The Glass Menagerie includes Sean Cox as “Tom Wingfield,” Sarah Zimmerman as “Laura Wingfield” and David S. Humphrey as “Jim O’Connor.” Deborah Gilmour Smyth, two-time consecutive San Diego Theatre Critics Circle award winner for Ragtime and 2008’s acclaimed The Light in the Piazza, plays “Amanda Wingfield,” one of the seminal roles in the American theatre.
 
Scenic design is by Mike Buckley, with lighting design by Nathan Peirson, and costume design by Jeanne Reith. Original music is by Deborah Gilmour Smyth, performed by Rik Ogden on saxophone. Properties design is by Mike McKeon, technical direction is by Chuck Batchman, Patrick Duffy is the audio master and Chris Givens is the master electrician. The Production Stage Manager is Maria Mangiavellano.
 
The Glass Menagerie plays at Lamb’s Players Theatre, located at 1142 Orange Avenue in Coronado.  Performances are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  For a complete calendar of showtimes, visit LPT’s Web site at www.lambsplayers.org.

The season continues with The Fantasticks, beginning June 5, 2009 with a media opening on June 12. One of the most beautiful musicals ever written, The Fantasticks started out a crowd-pleaser and ended up the longest-running musical of all time, with an astonishing 42-year New York run. A girl and boy who live in neighboring houses fall in love despite their parents' feud, until they find that the feud was a trick to bring about their romance. Summer is the perfect season for this sweetly beautiful, broadly theatrical fable about falling in love, growing up, losing childlike innocence, and coming home again wiser. With a gorgeous score filled with beloved songs like "Soon It's Gonna Rain," "I Can See It," and the international chart-topper "Try to Remember," The Fantasticks is a delicious musical confection, a treat for the whole family. The show will play at Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado. Showtimes are Tuesday – Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 4:00pm and 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm.
