How will we "bounce back" into the real world?
A few months ago we received the best piece of news possible. Broadway was coming back in full swing! I am sure that we all already bought tickets to our favorite shows and can't wait to get back to that theatre and hear the swell of the orchestra as they start to play. However, what does this mean for our careers? How will we be able to insert ourselves back into the industry?
These were questions that I had been asking myself since the beginning of the pandemic in order to prepare for when things returned to normal. For me, the answer was to train and get in as many classes, talks, lessons, etc... as possible. I figured that when I rejoined the industry, I would do it better than I was before with a newfound sense of hope and confidence.
Another thing I found helpful was to practice self-taping and auditioning over zoom because I think that will still play a part in the industry going forward. One class that I took the summer after the pandemic began was focused on looking at your book and making sure you have everything in it that you could possibly need. The best part was that I had all the time in the world.
So if you haven't, while things are still moving slowly, I would definitely recommend organizing yourself and your book so that when in-person auditions start back up, you are prepared with whatever the auditioner wants to hear. I personally am so anxious to get back in a room buzzing with jitters, nerves, and the ultimate question "Will I make it?" I hope that you are all as excited and ready to come back with a bang!
