Over the summer I read Reasons to be Pretty and its companion, Reasons to be Happy by Neil LaBute. I enjoyed both of them, and became very invested in the characters' lives. In honor of this weekend's premiere of the third installment in the series, Reasons to be Pretty Happy, I thought I would share five things that I hope have happened between the second and third plays.

1. Greg has found success at his new job.

Even though I sometimes disliked Greg, I do want to see him find a job that would utilize his intelligence. And being an English teacher at a fancy New York school is a perfect fit for him; he could finally talk about the books he was reading with people who like them as much as he does!

2. Steph and Greg have finally called it quits, for good.

In the first two Reasons plays, it's clear that Steph and Greg have undeniable chemistry. But they butt heads in so many ways-Steph can be very dramatic and tends to act quickly, while Greg is a low-key guy. Their goal sets were completely different, and the dynamic between them was often volatile. I hope they have both moved on with their lives by the start of the third play.

3. Carly isn't in a relationship with Kent OR Greg.

Honestly, neither Kent nor Greg showed that they were ready to fully commit to Carly in the way that she did to them. I hope that Carly has moved on and found the happiness she (and her daughter) deserve.

4. Kent has grown up.

Kent has always stood out in this group of characters as the most immature. He and Greg are like polar opposites-where Greg shies away from conflict, Kent rushes toward it. I hope that he has learned to manage his anger, and found a way to co-parent with Carly.

5. All four characters are still friendly with each other.

I know they have been through a lot of interesting situations together, but I hope that the gang still considers each other friends. Maybe seeing each other at a school reunion will signify a fresh start in their friendship and a chance to forget old grudges.

I can't wait to find out what's in store for Greg, Steph, Carly, and Kent!
